What are PFA's And Why Our Bands Are PFA Free
If you are anything like us we are sure you have been getting a bunch of social media posts around Apple Watch Bands and other Sport Watch bands containing chemicals called PFA's and the potential risk they may pose to wearers.
We are here to break down the facts and reassure you that our bands are completely PFA free.
First off the bat, what actually is a PFA chemical?
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are human-made (also known as synthetic) chemicals that make products resistant to heat, stains, grease, and water.
Almost everyone will have some exposure to PFAS in their lifetime.
There is currently limited evidence of significant harm resulting from PFAS exposure. However, some studies have found associations between people exposed to specific PFAS chemicals and some health issues.
Now what has this got to do with bands for your apple watch?
Some sports bands for Apple Watches have been found to have a material called Fluoroelastomers - which are a polymeric form of PFAS in them. Although flexible, sweat and oil proof there are some questions around the risk that these materials pose to wearers.
The bottom line?
Thankfully, all of our Silicone and Sports bands are made out of 100% skin safe silicone, meaning there are no worries when it comes to our bands (other than trying to pick the right colour!)
Additionally, all our Resin, Metal and Leather options are also completely PFA free.
So rest assured you can shop stress free with us here at The Salty Fox.
